Private label sportswear manufacturing means the product leaves Sialkot as your brand: your labels, your colour story, your size curve and, when specified, your packaging.
Founders and distributors often use “private label” and “OEM” as if they were the same sentence. They overlap, but they are not identical. OEM is manufacturing to a specification you control. Private label is that manufacturing plus a complete identity system so a retailer or end customer never sees a generic factory mark. Abijah Sports runs both. The difference is how thoroughly we specify trims.
A serious private label brief covers more than a logo file. It includes neck label dimensions, care copy, size stickers, hang tag stock, polybag print, and whether cartons carry a brand mark or only a shipping mark. It also includes a size set that you are willing to stand behind in returns. We would rather delay a first cut than print a thousand care labels that omit a fibre you later change.
We do not invent a romantic origin story for the company on this page. What we can say clearly is the commercial offer: Sialkot cut-and-sew, decoration methods that match the cloth, and a trim pack you approve. Read the companion article on OEM versus private label if you are still choosing a model.
Why brands manufacture this way
You keep margin and identity. You are not reselling a printed-on factory brand. You can build a line — jersey, short, hoodie, jacket — that shares labels and colour logic. You can also start narrower: one gym short and one rash guard, then add SKUs when the first carton sells through.
Private label is also how distributors create house brands for clubs that do not want to manage artwork themselves. The distributor owns the label; the club buys a finished identity. Either way, the factory’s job is repeatability.
How a first brand run usually moves
- Define the assortment and the customer (club, retail, gym, online).
- Select fabrics and decoration methods.
- Approve garment samples and a trim pack sample.
- Lock labelling copy and packing rules.
- Produce, inspect and export under your marks.
Sampling is not optional theatre. It is where stretch recovery, opacity and print hand are judged on a body, not a screen. Contact the team for the current sampling path; we do not publish a universal sample fee or lead time on this site.
Packaging is its own service page: custom labels and packaging. Many first-time brands underestimate polybag print and carton quality. Those details are what a retailer notices when the kit is not being worn.
Categories that launch well
Activewear, MMA wear, apparel basics and club soccer or basketball lines are common starting points. Jackets often come in a second phase because hardware and lining add development time.
If you need all-over graphics, pair this page with sublimation printing. If your identity is a crest on a polo or a presentation jacket, pair it with embroidery.
Start your brand with a tight SKU list
Write down three garments, not thirty. Send that list through Get a Quote or WhatsApp. Abijah Sports will tell you what needs a sample and what can share a block.
What we need to print your name legally and cleanly
Provide the exact brand spelling, the legal fibre names you want on the care label, and the country-of-origin wording your market expects. If you sell into the USA and the EU, say so — label rules differ and this article is not legal advice. We will manufacture the copy you approve. You remain responsible for that copy.
If you do not have woven label artwork, we can set a simple manufacturing layout. If you have a brand designer, send their files at the correct size. Do not send a 4000-pixel logo and ask us to “make it 25 mm” without a preview. Previews prevent thread-thin disasters.
Reorder discipline
Keep style codes stable. A hoodie that changes code every season is how the wrong rib appears on the third drop. Tell us what must remain identical on reorder: shade, measurement, label, bag. Tell us what may change: a back graphic, a seasonal colour. That list is the difference between a brand and a series of one-off experiments.
Read how to start a sportswear brand if you are at SKU zero. Then send three rows, not a manifesto.
First drop versus second drop
The first drop proves fit, shade and labeling. The second drop proves you can reorder. Do not judge a manufacturer only on the first excitement of a sample photo. Judge them when the second carton matches the first. Build your calendar so a second drop is possible. A brand that never reorders is a photoshoot.
Tell us in advance if a second colourway is likely. We can sometimes plan a fabric buy more calmly when we know a follow-on exists. We still will not invent a price in this paragraph.
Frequently asked questions
The garment plus the identity layer you specify: neck labels, woven labels, hang tags, polybags and carton marks. Construction and fabric are agreed the same way as any OEM order.
Not on private label programs. The brand on the garment is yours. Factory identification on cartons follows export and buyer instructions.
Yes. Many first programs start from reference photos and a written brief. We still lock fabric, measurements and labels before bulk.
